A BUSY SEASON IN 2010

November 6th, 2010

Well the season is over for us here on Borana – well almost, a few guests still trickle through the lodge but the horses have all had their shoes removed and they are having a well-earned rest.

SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS SEASON.

Magic Monty
A friend of Jack’s from Berlin came with several others to spend a few weeks with us on Borana.  Monty entertained us and our friends, putting on several great performances in our house and at the polo club.  But without a doubt his best performance was at Kanyunga School in the Ngare Ndare village.  It was rewarding for both Monty – he had never witnessed children so entranced by magic and obviously for the children.  They had never experienced anything of this kind and I think several of the younger children were actually really scared – a white witch doctor had arrived in the village!  At last escapism has reached rural Kenya.

Harriet Lamb
A friend from school pitched up in my life again after 30 years.  Harriet who is the ‘Queen of Fair Trade” has set up an office in Nairobi and now comes to Kenya quite regularly.  She came for the night with husband and son, sadly it was an incredibly wet and muddy drive in, slightly tricky to see much and frustrating that they could only spare one night.  However it was wonderful to meet up again and memories of school came flooding back – the infectious laugh, which has not changed.  Hopefully she will come for longer next time.

Llewellyn
Llew has taken to the skies in the little super cub, which was re-built after a fairly serious crash.  All is now working fine and she is up in the air again with Llew in the seat.  Sadly we are having to sell her, but at least she gave him some good flying hours.

Frannie
Elaine – one of our homebred horses gave birth to Frannie (born on Fuzz’s birthday so named after him).  She is a truly beautiful foal and doing really well.

Owlets
Charlie saved a couple of owlets from a broken down nest in the Kisima hay barn.  Twitt and Twoo are doing really well on being hand-reared and he is hoping that in a few months they will start flying off on their own and become more independent.

Party time
Michael and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with Will and Emma Craig.  What a great party we had lunchtime drinking and afternoon dancing, a fantastic atmosphere, loads of old friends catching up and a few little kids in too.  Our children gave great speeches, both funny and charming.  Thanks.
