The other night we returned late from Ben the helicopter pilots birthday party. Through the Borana gates and there on the road was a tiny wee giraffe – Tequila – named by Michael.
We got out and approached her – she still had the dried up remains of her umbilical cord and a bit of blood on her back legs.
She was totally friendly to us and enjoyed a hug. What to do? Let’s put her in the back of the car and take her to the stables. At least she will be safe from predators and we can start feeding her milk. In she gets with no fuss and sits with Patrick on the floor. Happily or sadly depending on whom you are – we found her mum a few hundred yards away. Unloaded her and waited for her mum to re-bond with her infant. The following day the grooms went searching on horseback and it appears we were successful.

Harpers Bazaar Photo Shoot
Amory – who manages Laragai had an amazing week with this fashion shoot – an exotic wardrobe being shot in the wilds of Africa. A lot of hurry up and wait but all novelty stuff for us bush folk. The horses were also used for a couple of shots.
Amory the photographer
Inspired by the photo shoot and having been taught a few lessons by the charming photographer – Amory used his new found knowledge to take these photos of some lion here on Borana.

Laragai Elephant Trough
The elephants have now at last found the water trough just below the deck in front of Laragai House. They come in and drink and play literally meters from the house.

Riding News
All good in the stables – we have a couple of new horses – Babette – a promising youngster from Kisima and Kindergarten one of Llewellyn and Michael’s favourite polo ponies. He is now retired and will hopefully adapt to life on Borana.

Picnic breakfast with the horses.

One of our guests – Nicki – riding Zorro, who was fascinated by the buffalo on the other side of the small valley. The lodge is in the background.

Jack photos
Cosy photos of a couple of the bedrooms and the small dining room in 7 & 8.
