HONEYMOONING AT ROTUNDU
Will and Louise came up to Rotundu with us on their honeymoon. A birthday breakfast on the platform in the Ngare Ndare forest, followed by exploring the forest and then riding through the small-scale farms of ex-Lewa.

A late lunch with Charlie and Sara, sun-downers on Shuruti, and Spendrup’s ‘Bitte’ nightcaps.

Pancakes for breakfast and then up the mountain we went, cantering through Kisima, tiptoeing through Katie’s wood, and then just trying to take in the breath-taking scenery up on the moorland. The heather in blossom, a few protea beginning to open, yellow gorse providing a splash of colour and then the acres of everlasting flowers.

We padded through marshy ground, bashed out way through moorland vegetation and eventually arrived at the log cabins where we gobbled down our sandwiches – ravenous by now. 5.30 pm and out onto the lake being rowed around very slowly by Cosmos and his mate. Great excitement as I catch my first fish, a beautiful rainbow trout almost 2½ lbs – never bothered to try before!

We ate it for breakfast – absolutely delicious!

Having seen Will and Louise into a Tropic air helicopter for a flight around the mountain, we left for Kisima and the elephant corridor

– we loaded the horses onto a lorry at the end of a long ride.
