CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT EMERGENCY RESPONDER COURSE

November 27th, 2011

Last week Flick, Jaros – guide at the lodge, Nicholas – horse guide and myself went on a first aid course at Sosian Lodge. There were twelve of us being taught by Rupert from ExMed in the UK.
Gosh did we learn a lot! Having coped with several accidents during my many years on Borana I thought that I knew enough, but in fact the knowledge we were taught to give accident victims the best opportunity to survive until medical help, helicopters, Africa Air Rescue or whoever appear on the scene was enormous.
We were taught CPR on dummies, how to use the portable defibrillator, which was kindly given to Borana, we were taught to bandage and tourniquet and insert airways, deal with choking, bleeding, burns and broken limbs and I for one am now far more confident in how I would assist in an accident.
