This weekend we hosted a group for Alice’s 30th birthday. Everyone arrived at the lodge on Friday afternoon and after a sundowner on the hill above the lodge to kick the weekend off we all headed back to the lodge for a lively dinner in the dining room. Slow roasted pork with butternut risotto and home grown veggies were on the menu for supper and an enormous layered red velvet cake for pudding adorned with fresh raspberries and 30 candles to finish off the meal. The following day some of the team were up early and explored the conservancy on foot or from the air (paragliding with hunter) while the others soaked up the sun by the pool. Others arrived for lunch bringing the numbers up to 45 (and actually about 55 if you count the herd of elephant that visited the waterhole during the party) . Hunter created some delicious cocktails using ginger syrup, lime juice, vodka and Corona beer – an unusual combination but now expect it to be a regular on the Borana cocktail menu as it definitely got the thumbs up from all who drank it. Lunch was served – Roast beef and pork belly (both meats supplied by the Well Hung Butcher), chicken fillets with satay sauce, mini mushroom and feta filo pies and an array of delicious Ottelengi inspired salads. More cocktails (expresso martinis now) and laughter by the pool followed by soup and cheese and dancing in the sitting room to finish off the day. Everyone left on Sunday morning, some with slightly sore heads but all in all a great weekend. Thankyou Alice and happy birthday!
