STARRY NIGHTS

First Day: Arrive Borana. Evening walk, ride or game drive and sundowners. Overnight Borana.

Second morning: Meet the horses. Ride amongst the wildlife with plenty of opportunities for fast gallops. Evening ride or walk
Overnight Borana

Third Day: Early departure on horses; this is a beautiful ride across the northern end of Borana and into the Mokogodo forest. The ride then descends down a knife-edge ridge with outstanding views of the northern frontier.
We will have a picnic brunch en route arriving early afternoon.
Relax and siesta followed by exploring the rock kopjes and sand rivers on foot in the evening. Overnight Tassia.

Fourth Day: Easy late morning, it is beautiful in the morning with uninterrupted views of the sunrise accompanied by a cacophony of song, so take it easy and enjoy it from your bed or walk out to a picnic breakfast. Spend the rest of the morning by the pool.
3.30 pm we ride out and follow a sand river down to the Ngare Ndare this is an exhilarating evening ride with plenty of gallops in the river bed usually lots of elephant for added excitement. Lots of logs to jump! We then follow the riverine woodland riding under giant Acacia tortillus and Boscia angustofolia groves. Arrive at Il N’gwesi in time for cocktails and a swim.
Overnight Il N’gwesi.

Fifth Day: We ride out after an early breakfast following the Mokogodo escarpment heading south towards Borana. This is a steep climb with lots of cantering. Rest the horses after the climb and then ride on to a fly-camp on the Ngare Ndare river, arriving in time for a late lunch.
After a siesta in your tent, explore the river on foot or wander into the hills behid in search of exquisite bird life - with a guide of course. Dinner under the stars.

Sixth Day: We have a delicious camp breakfast and then ride back to Borana. This day is an opportunity to see a lot of plains game, buffalo and elephant on the way back up the escarpment. A cold lunch by the pool, Pimms in hand, followed by a well-earned massage from Lucy our very popular masseuse.

This is a sample itinerary and we pride ourselves on our flexibilty.
However it is very important that all our guests are riding fit.

We have rides down into the Seiku Lugga - a totally wild valley, just a couple of hours ride away. We also do safaris onto the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy - either day trips with a picnic, fly-camping in the conservancy or staying at Wilderness Trails a very comfortable Lodge in the style of Borana which is run and owned by Michael's cousin Will Craig.

A second sample itinerary would be our trip up to Lake Rotundu on Mt Kenya.

First Day: Arrive Borana. Evening walk, ride or game drive and sundowners. Overnight Borana.

Second morning: Meet the horses. Ride amongst the wildlife with plenty of opportunities for fast gallops. Evening ride or walk. Overnight Borana

Third Day: Leave after an early breakfast at Borana. We ride through the Samangua Hills and into the Ngare Ndare Forest, having a delicious picnic in the forest on the way, with a chance to see the Hartlaub's Turaco. Soon we arrive on Kisima which is fairly intensively farmed, with crops, livestock, forestry and floriculture. Stay the night with Charlie and Sara - they live in the original homestead of Will Powys the grandfather who arrived in Kenya before the First World War. Over night Kisima.

Fourth Day: We leave relatively early and begin the climb up to Lake Rotundu. Riding through the indigenous forest on the mountain under the ancient branches of the African Rosewood - Hagenia ???. We then come out of the forest onto the moorland where heather and protea thrive and there's a chance to glimpse the mountain reedbuck. A picnic brunch on the moorland and then we continue our ride up to the log cabins at Lake Rotundu, a fabulous spot for trout fishing. Over night Rotundu.

Fifth Day: We explore the moorland around Lake Rotundu and for the fit and adventurous a walk up to Lake Alice - a beautiful turquoise crater lake. After lunch back onto the horses and we return to Charlie and Sara's house. Over night Kisima.

Sixth Day: Ride through the forest onto Lewa and camp in one of their stunning campsites, hopefully surrounded by wildlife lunch in the camp, siesta and then a walk on Lewa. Dinner under the stars. Overnight Lewa.

Seventh Day: Leave early and ride through Lewa and back onto Borana with lunch at Rose and Tony's house on the way. This is a chance to meet Michael's parents who are full of stories of their life in Kenya.

We take a maximum of 8 people and minimum of 4, the youngest being 12 and the oldest being a fit 70+.
