YOUR BORANA HOSTS

Borana is owned by Michael and Nicky Dyer. They have two children, Llewellyn and Jack, and continue to farm at Borana Ranch and to run numerous community projects (see Conservation and Community). To ensure high standards are maintained, both The Lodge and Laragai House have full-time hosts overseeing a full staff dedicated to creating a tailor-made experience for Borana’s guests.

THE LODGE

Sam Taylor and Flick Woodhouse are your hosts at the Lodge. Sam was born and brought up in Thika on a coffee plantation just north of Nairobi. Having schooled in Nairobi and the UK, Sam went to New Zealand where he obtained degrees in Zoology and Marketing in between fly fishing and playing rugby.

He met Flick in New Zealand. She was doing a degree in marketing and food science – Flick’s passion for making food and Sam’s passion for eating it made a perfect mix. Flick decided to return to Kenya with Sam after their studies, where they ran tented camps and lodges in the Masai Mara and Meru National Park – a far cry from Flick’s family sheep station in Canterbury, New Zealand! They joined the management team at Borana in January 2009.

Sam is a FGASA and KPSGA qualified guide and FGASA trails guide – having trained in the Makuleke on the Limpopo Mozambique/Zimbabwe border in South Africa.

LARAGAI HOUSE

Amory Macleod is your host at Laragai House. Amory was born in Nairobi, and grew up at Lake Baringo, in the Rift Valley. Amory is the grandson of David Roberts the infamous crocodile hunter and is stepson to Terry Stephenson, one of the world’s most prestigious ornithologists.

He was educated in Kenya and Zimbabwe and has a diploma in Conservation and Land Management from Perth University in Australia. He has worked in many high class tourist camps in Kenya – firstly with Richard Roberts at Richard’s Camp in the Maasai Mara, and also with Bimbi Dyer at Manda Bay near Lamu. Amory has been a manager at Borana since 2008.
