The principles: The strategy is grounded in core principles; trust, collaboration,
credible governance, climate resilience, and innovation. Livestock is
considered as a unifier and tool for rangeland regeneration, ecological and
social systems are recognised as inseparable; and regeneration, peace, and
prosperity are possible only through shared stewardship at landscape scale.
Our vision: A landscape where ecosystem integrity and resilient wildlife populations
are secured for future generations through increased connectivity,
lasting peace, strong community collaboration rooted in trusted generational
stewardship, and a thriving sustainable economy.
Our mission: To work in partnership with our neighbours to nurture a healthy,
diverse ecosystem where people and wildlife, especially endangered species,
can thrive through a holistic model integrating tourism, livestock, and regenerative
enterprises.
Borana Conservancy and Beyond; a 10 year Strategy
Four interconnected goals:
1. Thriving and connected ecosystem: BCL will support wildlife resilience
and increased biodiversity by promoting collaborative landscape
management, enhanced habitat connectivity, reduced human–wildlife
conflict, regenerative grazing, shared intelligence networks, and technology-
enabled monitoring.
2. Enhancing the well being of communities through collaborative efforts:
BCL will support peace building, youth empowerment, and sustainable
enterprise—with a shared livestock enterprise at its core. BCL will
catalyse partnerships and collaborative efforts to address shared priorities
guided by a landscape wide vision - including access to education,
health, water, and economic opportunity.
3. Securing long term impact financing: BCL will seek to strengthen financial
resilience and pioneer new funding models, including nature-based
finance and joint mechanisms, to support shared landscape priorities.
4. Maintaining strong governance & ethical Leadership: Uphold transparent,
professional governance grounded in generational custodianship.
BCL will seek to strengthen organisational systems, succession planning,
environmental leadership, and shared values across BCL’s business community
to ensure long-term stewardship and inspire others.
This strategy re-affirms BCL’s commitment to working with neighbours, partners,
and the next generation to protect biodiversity, strengthen rural prosperity,
and secure a thriving, sustainable Greater Mukogodo landscape for generations to come.
